“Why The Future of Math Needs The Past”

Pamela Warren teaches math and logic at Geneva Academy, a classical Christian school in southern Oregon. She resides in Roseburg with her husband, three kids, Goldendoodle, “Harry,” and two very mischievous kittens. After receiving her degree in mathematics in 2012, she began teaching math to a variety of levels, including G.E.D., high school, middle school, and, more recently, elementary. She observed a common thread woven between students of all ages and abilities–namely, that none of the pupils understood the purpose of learning math. So she set out to uncover the ruins of historically classical math, looking to the past to rediscover why this discipline was so highly prized (hint: it wasn’t because it would be useful for a job).
